Hello all! I am Landon Stroh, and I am from a small town in Alaska called Hope, it is on the Kenai Peninsula about an hour and a half south of Anchorage. I graduated from high school in Hope and moved there in 2011. I enjoy downhill skiing at Alyeska, in Girdwood, and have been skiing for 13 years now. I like playing pickleball and disc golf, among some other games. I am going to UAF to become a civil engineer, and minoring in mathematics.

I listen to all kinds of music, and almost any chance I have to listen to music I will. Most genres of music, except for heavy metal, techno, or country, are the types I would typically listen to. Some of my favorite bands are Twenty One Pilots, X Ambassadors, and Mumford & Sons, just to name a few. I used to play a little piano when I was in middle school, but I never learned how to read sheet music and I slowly just stopped playing, though I would like to start playing again. I recently went to my first concert with one of my friends just before school started, we went to go see Mt. Joy at the Alaska state fair. The concert was a unique experience and the music was good, but I don't think concerts are for me. I look forward to getting to know all of you in the upcoming weeks.

Here are some links to some of my favorite songs by some of my favorite bands.

  1. So what are the chances that I have 2 students from Hope this semester? I am sure that you know each other - which is fantastic. You can team up, inspire and motivate each other.

  2. Hi Landon! I've never heard of Hope before, it's crazy how many people end up at UAF from all of these tiny places in Alaska. I like Mumford and Sons too! :) Also, that's so cool that you got to see Mt. Joy, I don't really like concerts either, but I have a few of their songs saved on my playlist and so I think they'd be a band that I'd enjoy seeing live. I hope this class inspires you to start playing the piano again, even if you just pick one or two songs to start clunking out! :)

  3. hey there! that's an awesome photo! That's super cool that you got to see a concert at the Alaska State Fair. I went with my friends and boyfriend but I like to avoid going to concerts.

  6. Hi Landon! I've heard Hope is a beautiful village. I used to know some people who were from there, they went to the Nenana Student Living Center with me over the last few years!

Twenty One Pilots used to be a favorite band of mine too! I listen to them less nowadays, but I go back to my favorite eras every so often for nostalgia's sake. What's your favorite album by them? Personally, I'm torn between Self-Titled and Vessel, they both hold a lot of memories and emotions for me. Though when it comes to individual songs, I love the now unreleased songs from Regional at Best, specifically Anathema, Lovely, and Glowing Eyes. Do you listen to Twenty One Pilots new stuff? I've tried, but I found it lacked the charm that their older albums had.

You mentioned that you don't think concerts are for you. Is there any musician that you'd make an exception for, just because of how much you like them? Personally, I think there's a concert scene out there for everyone, they just need to find it!

  7. Hello Landon! I’ve always wanted to go to Hope but haven’t ever had the opportunity to. Downhill skiing is also one of my favorite activities and I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember. Out of all the places I’ve been downhill skiing and snowboarding, Alyeska is the place I’ve had the most fun.

  8. Hi Landon! I'm also a fan on Mumford & Sons and Twenty One Pilots. Holding On To You was one of my favorite songs in middle school and it reminded me to listen to it again.
